Prototype hi-tech backpack automatically maps out interiors in 3D

Students and faculty at UC Berkeley demonstrated this awesome backpack that uses multiple cameras and lasers to automatically map out any interior while person strapped in one walks inside. Later collected data is used to automatically create 3D map with captured photos used as textures.  Pretty awesome, I can see Google maps adopting this!  This prototype is huge and heavy but device can be miniaturized for a convenience in near future.  See video after break.
